Save the cheerleader, save the world!

The indestructible high-school cheerleader Claire Bennet, portrayed by Hayden Panettiere, was the inspiration for the Heroes TV series, season 1 tagline: "Save the cheerleader, save the world." Heroes is a TV show about ordinary people all over the world discovering that they have superpowers and trying to deal with how this change is affecting their lives.

Born in Texas, Claire Bennet's parents are Nathan Petrelli and Meredith Gordon, other two people with extraordinary abilities. Meredith abandoned Claire when she was a year old; they were caught in a house fire. Baby Claire was adopted by Noah Bennet and his wife Sarah, on the request of The Company, and raised in Odessa, Texas. Claire has a brother, by the Bennets, Lyle. Heroes TV season 1 starts with Claire as cheerleader while she discovers her regenerative power. She and her new friend Zach tape attempts of harming herself on a video camera, her "own private freak show". With her rapid cellular regeneration ability, things start happening to our cheerleader pretty soon. She 'dies' after being pushed down onto a piece of wood by the quarterback, reviving during the autopsy...

After the first four episodes of Heroes TV series, a story arc called "Save the cheerleader, save the world" begins. Somehow, Claire's fate is implied to be tied to the fate of the entire world. The first ones becoming aware of the cheerleader's importance are future Hiro Nakamura and the drug addicted painter Isaac Mendez. Also Peter Petrelli, her unaware uncle, hurries to rescue her from Sylar - the brain maniac - at her homecoming.

Later, the cheerleader is shot by Officer Parkman in an attempt to calm down Ted Sprague, the 'nuclear man', to keep him from killing her mother. When Mr. Thompson finds out that Claire has developed a power, Mr. Bennet sends her away with the Haitian. Instead, she ends up in New York, where she tries to stop Peter from blowing the city up, after he absorbed Ted's nuclear power.

In Heroes TV show, season 2, the cheerleader moves to Santa Clara, California and changes her name to Claire Butler. Here Claire tries to keep a low profile so the company can't find her, but all goes wrong when a boy from her new school sees her cut off her little toe and it grows back. On a personal level, Claire loves her adoptive family very much, but still remains curious about her origins.

In the third season of Heroes TV series, Sylar manages to find Claire and cuts open her skull to examine her brain, stealing the cheerleader's regenerative ability. However, the process also removes from Claire the ability to feel physical pain, which saddens her deeply, as she stated numerous times that pain was the only thing that kept her believing she was human in this world.

The cheerleader can rapidly heal herself, allowing recovery from severe injuries within seconds, though she does need embedded foreign objects to be manually removed from her body, or bones pushed back into position, for the wounds to heal properly. Although Sylar, after studying her, states that he wouldn't be able to kill her, even if he wanted to and that she will never die, Heroes' writers confessed that methods such as decapitation would indeed kill her. We are looking forward for the decapitation episode in Heroes TV show, to see if this is true.
